Heels are an invention of the devil..

.. either that or sadistic men.

After spending last night dancing and walking on heels (a wedding, don't ask) I can barely walk today.. my feet hurt, my ankles hurt and my calves hurt from being forced into an awkward position all night.

Never again. . Christ I'm 5'8", I don't need the superficial height adjustment..

This is my excuse for no blog updates this weekend.. wedding and recovery.

Well, I prefer women who don't wear heels... So don't blame me. :-)

Women wear heels because they force your bottom up provocatively, make you arch your back and thrust your bust out. As such, you should probably limit your usage of them to situations where attracting a mate is your primary concern.

Dan's opinion is interesting. I always attributed it to

a) male fashion designers secretly hating women and so inflictly painful clothing on them (Corsets are another example).

b) people in the shoe business know damn well that heels break -- and that women will have to replace their shoes. As a guy I have shoes I wear regularly that are five years old. I've never seen heels last all that long from observing women I have known.

So sadism or economics ?

5'10'' here ;-)

I actually decided some years ago that as I was already "too tall", I might as well push it a bit further and wear heels when I felt like it.

But true, they weren't designed to keep feet and back healthy!

It's been studied anthropologists rather extensively. I'm sure a quick Google tour would yeild evidence.

Well hello everyone! HAHAHAHAHA, I understand where you are coming from but I don't think that they are an invention of the devil being that all I wear are stilleto's and spiked stilleto's (4" - 5.25"). I find them quite comfortable and it could also raise your confidence level...well that's what it does for me! The truth be told, you don't always have to keep your heels on, if they get a little tiresome on your feet, take them off!!! This will be very helpful!!!' By the way I'm 5'6" tall!

HUGS & KISSES,

Tanya

No, I'm not a stripper, but I love dressing like one. The heels just add that much more to the outfit. But if you don't like them just don't wear them, it's that simple.

Heels aren’t just for the benefit of men. Yes, they make your legs look even better and any outfit look more sophisticated (yes even jeans). But they can also increase your general confidence and make you feel good - if you are confident and comfortable in them.

If you are not used to wearing heels you can't expect to wear 4 inch heels all day (such as a wedding) with out problems. Stepping into heels that are higher than your are used to can make you stand with bad posture (or even slightly bent knees) which will lead to back problems.

Heels of 4 inches require much more flexibility in the ankles and calve mussels. A bit like training to be an athlete, this takes time and practice. The best way is to work your way up in heel height over many months (or even years). Don’t even consider those 3 inch heels until you can spend all day on your feet in 2 inch heels without any discomfort. Only once they become second nature, should you think about trying 3 inch heels. 4 inches or higher takes even more practice.

Also go fit is even more important as heels get higher.

My wife who is now in her early 30’s can now wear 4 inch heels all day long around the shops and out for an evening with no problems or discomfort as she has worked her way up slowly. When we first met she found that just a few hours in 3 inch heels made her feet, legs and back ache.

This is a good link with lots advice on fit and wearing: http://www.geocities.com/FashionAvenue/3099/index_e.htm
