It's not particularly hard to keep morale low, but just in case someone is not sure how to accomplish this, here's a couple of pointers:
- Keep adding and changing requirements on a project that's in last stages of development.
- Don't allow schedule changes despite changing and additional requirements.
- Spend lots of time complaining about really minor visual and setup issues when a project is still mid-development.
- Schedule end of development right around Christmas holidays which in combination with additional requirements and no allowance for extended schedule should assure your employees have no time for Christmas vacation.
I think that about should do it..

Excellent post....I agree 100%. It has happened so often to me, each of the four items you mentioned. Bravo!
#Forgot to mention:
-Deny your coders access to caffinated beverages.
-After the big project is done, denounce it as crap and throw out all the code.
i'd say my favorite is to make engineers into qa, operators, and occasionally tech support.
#Don't forget to launch the next project with lots of proclamations about how great it will be and how it will turn out different than the last three (failed) project. Ensure the same processes and procedures (or lack thereof) are followed.
#Idf you spent more time coding, rather than blogging, you wouldn't have this problem.
#Oh that's so true on so many levels...The company I worked for did a bunch of horrible horrible things to keep morale low.
They got rid of Friday bagels and milk (which was the only true source of milk for our coffee).
Then, they made the system engineers into Q/A, Operations and constant Tech Support. They didn't even bother calling the NOC...Straight to us! *steaming mad*
#I wish I could give you a vacation. :) I understand completely about low morale. If you want a good chuckle - go here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,5327921~root=security,1~mode=flat
