Cell phone reboot

I had to reboot my cell phone today. It sounds funny, but honestly, it's not. It's a brand new phone and I spent several hours inputing all my telephone numbers into it -- I really don't want to have to get a new one.

It was happily charging itself.. then I noticed the battery meter was not changing.. so I unplugged it.. it continued to show the little blinking battery light as if it was still charging.. Opened it (it's a flip phone - Motorola T720) -- the pretty blue light didn't come on and no display.. *sniff*.

Pressing buttons didn't help.. power button non-responsive.. time for a reboot.

Battery out, battery in, turned on okay. Here's hoping this isn't a symptom of something breaking.

*fingers crossed*

Heh...My old Samsung N200 from Sprint did that sometimes...It would just crash and burn. Sit there and do nothing.

Now my new phone Nokia 6360 is not that bad...It however did turn itself off once or twice before. They're making them too complex. Compex = bad

Maybe I should work on a cell phone running unix.

Cell phone reboots are not uncommon. Not only the the firmware actually written software, but most of the intelligence of the phone is nothing less than software running along unawares. So imagine there is some unsigned short counter that should have been declared signed. Comes a day when the overflow occurs and boom! Time for a reboot...

Phones... I do hope we won't have to reboot our cars one day. If so, I'd rather see "kernel panic" than "blue screen of death" ;-)

From what I've read the Motorola T720 can come loaded with BREW (as Verizon does) or J2ME (as Sprint (?) does). Wondering which one you have, I have the BREW version, wishing I had J2ME...
