I'm flying to Northern California on Saturday (6am flight, yikes) and coming back Wednesday night. I may have an hour or two of time I have nothing scheduled for (yet) so anyone wanting to say hello, drop me a note and I'll see what I can do. Of course if you're a stalker, insane or otherwise dangerous -- please don't bother. I'm flexible on the insane part.
During my stay I'll be staying in lovely Palo Alto and probably using my laptop so much it will feel just like home. But warmer. And no snow.
The only dilemma I have is my luggage. My suitcase has a built-in combination lock (my carry-on suitcase is too small for four days -- really) and I'm afraid someone will spin the teeny wheels, lock it and then after they mark my curling iron as a potential bomb it will be destroyed for a search.. after that of course the entire contents of the suitcase (with my luck it will be on the return trip and will include dirty underwear) will be spilled all over the baggage area conveyor belt for all to admire. I think I'll put tape over the teeny wheels.. or write the combination on the suitcase.. right next to "Please, help yourself to anything inside".
I hate flying.

Silly guy question - why not just get yourself a larger carry-on and pack everything you need in your carry on? You get one-carry-on-one-personal, so the computer case would be the personal, scrunch everything into a carry-on and then know where it is the entire flight, and not leave yourself to trusting airport security (joke!)
Now, now, I may be a geek, but I'm still a girl. My travel toiletry set takes up half my carry on. Then where will I put the several pairs of jeans, 10 tshirts, 3 pairs of shoes and assorted other clothes I'll need? hm?

Another solution I've employed is paying FedEx to ship your possessions to your attention @ the hotel, and then doing the reverse. It's often only 20 or 30 dollars to do both directions, especially if you give Fedex the "lighter" stuff.

This is probably of more benefit to men than women, but my policy now is to wear slip-on shoes instead of lace-ups while flying. During my last trip I was singled out three times, and had to remove my shoes for individual inspection.
Flying post-9/11 has taken a turn for the worse...

#Ok, my typical rant with these types of geographical references, but I'll make it nice :) San Francisco is *not* in Northern California. Take a look at a map. Sure it's north of San Diego and Los Angeles, but it is not in Northern Cal. If anything it is in North Central California. The differences between SF and any location in Northern Cal (for example, Mount Shasta City) are quite extensive. Culturally, geologically and cosmotologically SF and Northern California are distinctly different.
