The fun part

My new server is now plugged in and all fresh and ready to be configured, setup, played with and all the other fun stuff you do to a remote linux box that will host lots of web-related stuff.

I know everyone is just dying to know the config (yah right).. so here it is:

P4 1.7Ghz (one is all I need).
1.5GB RAM (a RAM fairy dropped off more than I ordered)
2 hard drives.. 80GB & 120GB (IDE.. SCSI would be nice but more expensive).

It's now happily sitting in the datacenter at a colocation awaiting orders.

I'll be moving this site to it sometime next week (I've lots of configuring to do first).

Thanks Jeremy, Steve and Jeffrey for all your help! You guys rock.

Well, since it was built in California and is installed at a colocation in California (I haven't actually seen it, sad, isn't it? I'm sad) I just had the guys who built it install RedHat 8 on it.

Right now I'm in the process of cleaning it up and making it into a strip-down, clean, lean linux distro.. (yah, you can do that to redhat it just takes work).

Ah I see. I remember doing the same to a SuSE install back before I discovered Gentoo. Maybe you can get someone to install a webcam at the colocation so you can watch it...;)

DjESIGNS: a friend's server.. it's a (p300, right steve?) and on a dual-honed T1.. the new server is a 1.7Ghz P4.. on a I'm not sure what.. but it's a fast connection, plus the server is all mine.. that kind of helps with the hole "control freak" part.
