Another reason I want a powerbook!

Impressive:

I accidentally ran over my PowerBook with my dad's SUV today.

It's not very often that someone gets to say that. But perhaps what's even more surprising is the fact that I'm writing this on that very same PowerBook. Hold a 12" PowerBook G4 and you can just tell it's sturdy. It's thin, but not flimsy, and the aircraft-grade aluminum case makes it feel like a lump of metal, rather than a sophisticated high-tech gadget.

It's like a car bumper though: if it gets hit head on, it can handle it, but if you hit it on a corner, it will dent.

Still pretty darned impressive, the SUV test... wonder if we can get ZDNet to do a similar test with some Sony models :D

I guess Apple will start making powerbooks with grate-like cases to put under your wheels for traction on those icy days.

It's always good to find another marketing channel. :)

Someone in our office recently dumped an entire glass of water directly on his tiBook's keyboard, while it was powered on of course, and it continues to work fine. Just needed a little drying time is all.

My HP Pavilion ze1210 was run over by a car actually while I was in college last year. Don't even ask the story behind it but suffice to say I thought the worst...the only thing that happened to it was the latch bent so the top wouldn't close fully...HP fixed it under warrnty though in less than 2 days.

The best part is...my laptops plastic :-D
