Warszawa

Warsaw to the non-Poles among you..

I need to stop reading Maciej's weblog or at the very least his entries about Poland. All it ever achieves is a deluge of nostalgia and memories of ancient history from more than 15 years ago.

I grew up in a small, suburban town five minutes (by bike, 20 by train) outside of Warsaw.. Warsaw. All those skipped school days spent in the Museum of Technology in the very ugliness of architecture described by Maciej in his entry.. the Palace of Culture and Knowledge. It is quite possibly the ugliest building ever built.

My first half year of high school was in Warsaw (the rest in US), a medical Lyceum "Na Mokotowie" (for some odd reason I thought I'd be a doctor back then, I think it was more my mom's idea than mine).. I spent more time in Old Town cafes pretending to be a college student than in class.

I used take the bus to the airport and pretend I was to leave on one of the flights out.. and then, one day, I did.
