Parking Ban!

Only in Connecticut (well, that I know of) could you experience something like this..

It's 12:10 am, you're sitting on your couch in your comfortable, warm living room, there is a dusting of snow outside and light snow still coming down.

Suddenly, you hear intermitten police siren-beeps and vague loud-speaker anouncements.. there are blue-and-red lights bouncing off your walls..

No! Don't panic! It's not zee germans coming!

It's just a parking ban and they're (loudly, I should note) anouncing that all cars parked on the street will be towed.

There is about one inch of snow on the ground..
My street gets about 10 cars passing it a day and it's all people who live here..
It's after midnight on a weeknight.

*sigh*.. only in CT will a police siren wake you up at 12am to move your car so they can plow that entire inch of light snow.

(I park in my driveway, doesn't apply to me)

Uhh. What if you weren't at home?

Come home from a long trip to find your car towed for nothing you did wrong?!

At least that's a rare thing in CT. One area in St Louis will ticket/tow your car if you leave it parked on the street in front of your own house over night.

It gets better.. more snow fell overnight and as of yet (nearly 11 am) the street has not been plowed.. at all. But I'm sure those people whose cars were ticketed 12 hours ago are greatful to be reminded not to park on the street in case a snow plow comes by!

That's ridiculous. I'm sure government policies set in place by liberals are to blame.

Yeah, your state is f-ed up alright...I was there over New Year's weekend with my friends. We wanted to get some alcohol...But apparently you can't buy alcohol there at 11, unless it's in a bar.

Looking at it from the Public Works Department's (PWD) point of view, here in Ontario Canada, the PWD is mandated to clear all municipal streets and bridges of snow and ice within a set period of time (I believe that to be within 48 hours) of the last snow event. The city I live in, has a by-law stating within 36 hours (better than the provincial mandate). Last summer, to help the PWD, the City Council attempted to pass another by-law making overnight on street parking illegal during the winter months to assist the PWD in achieving this task.

Roads are much safer when cleared of snow and slush. Having vehicles parked on the streets is a hazzard for the removal crews, and other motorists and pedestrians wishing to use the street.
