What is wrong with this picture
There is a new attraction in central Connecticut. It opened last Saturday, but the level of attention has yet to decline.
At any given hour of a day, if you drive by it, there is a crowd of cars attempting to enter the parking lot. A police officer is on hand directing the traffic flow (who is paying for that?). Line of cars blocking the right lane of the adjacent highway for a mile, sometimes longer.
Drivers sitting in their cars, some smoking cigarettes, some looking impatiently through the windshield.. most are lone drivers.
There are orange traffic cones blocking off the right turn lane prior to the entrance.. and the place is mobbed.. line of people out the door.
What is this phenomenal attraction?
A newly opened Krispy Kreme Donut Shop. I kid you not.
I want out of Connecticut. Now.
Comments
This is not terribly uncommon - Krispy Kreme is wildly popular. Shows the power of a fantastic donut to bring repeat customers.

When we got our first Krispy Kreme in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, the traffic was piled back so far, it actually caused traffic to stall on the FREEWAY.
Krispy Kreme is the devil. But truly... if it's every about 11 or 12pm, when the crowds are less likely to be thick, drive by it. If you see the "HOT NOW" sign lit up, get out of your car and get your ass into Krispy Kreme. Not only are the donuts amazingly good when hot... but, they'll give you a free one everytime you go in.

I must be one of the few ... the proud ...
Those who don't like Krispy Kreme.
Give me Dunkin' Donuts any day. Even when Yahoo would have outdoor "events" and Krispy Kreme was there catering it giving away boxes of 12 donuts to employees to take back to their cubes, I still would end up eating one out of desperate hunger and giving the others away.

Obviously I've lived a sheltered life. I've never heard of Krispy Kreme Donuts.

I seriously detest krispy cream doughnuts! (p.s. if you didnt like what happened in your town, dont come to fresno. it was 2 SOLID weeks before there was a single hour that there wasnt a car in the drivethrough for that satanic place.) I dont know what the big deal is -- personally... people just seem to get addicted... maybe they use powdered cocaine in their glaze rather then sugar? who knows?!

I remember when the first metro Milwaukee (WI) krispy cream opened. We had a similar occurance with a 24 hour traffic jam for about the first week of opening. My wife and I happened across it one day while trying to go to dinner at a resturant across the street. We never did get to have dinner there because police were diverting traffic out of the area due to the mad rush on the new krispy cream.
Strangely I don't care for their dounuts myself.

My friend and I use to get KK's every Wed. night. We use to joke about how people would walk out smiling or with serious faces after getting their donuts. Gotta love them though

As homer says, "mmmmmm... donut"

out here, that happens for krispy kreme AND In'n'Out.
Me, I don't like KK. Too sweet, too much vanilla. I'll take tim horton's any day. But it's not unique to CT. It happens wherever they show up. Why? I dunno. Good marketing, I guess.

I'm with Jeremy. "Hmmm..... Donuts. Hmmmm..... Kasia not like. Hmmmmm.... More for me."

It seems to happen at every KK, and In-N-Out. It's amazing, but I don't see a reason. Well, maybe KK when their donuts are "Hot Now", but not In-N-Out. There has to be some good mom-and-pop hamburger stands around.

I was passing it yesterday, I still say its nuts. I had one on Saturday (I have friends who have friends who have friends who had connections) and it wasn't that great at all. I also will have to say I'll stick with Dunkin Donuts...

Krispy Krack... They're good, but not good enough to queue for. Nothing is, really. I hate crowds and lines. Hmm... maybe I just can't stand the thought of being a slave to the same meaningless crap as "everybody else". I seem to lose interest in things when they become popular.

O MY GOODNESS!!!! I can't believe most of you people don't like Krispy Kream's!!! Dunkin' Donut's isn't even in the same category as Krispy Kream's!!! Where I live (Tocca, GA) they have to get the police to direct traffic whenever the "NOW HOT" sign is on. I mean people stock the place. Some even lie to get free donuts! Sure, it wrong, but we do what we gotta to do to get our donuts!!

KK doughnuts are by far the tastiest delights to treasure in your digestive tract. I even wear my KK doughnut cap everywhere I go. I have no affiliation with the company but truly love their product. It is miles above the competition(Lowly Dunkin Doughnuts) are impostor doughnuts only wishing that they could be in the same league with KK's. Coffee Kreme is my favorite right now; and their coffee is positively righteous!! Way to go KK!!!

Krispy Kream just opened outside of Boston about six weeks ago, and after the crowds died down, finally decided to try them. I thought they were fantastic, there is no comparsion to Dunkin Donuts. I will never go to DDs for donuts again, just their coffee. If Krispy Kream had DDs donuts it couldnt be bear. Thanks Steve OLeary
