More layoffs
The company I work for laid off more people today. All in development and QA. This stinks.. as one of my office-mates is gone and there's only two of us left in the office now. (I think about 20 people in the building total).
It sucks.. half the development staff is gone.
This is the third round of layoffs since I've worked here (two years this month) but the first one targeted specifically at engineering.

Thats really un cool. I've been starting to enter the work field by doing free lance website design and computer consulting. Consulting pretty much covers everything from sys admin, installations, to networking. I've been looking for more steady full time jobs, but with all of this layoff talk I think I'll stick to what I'm doing now.

Certainly is uncool. The last company I worked for had a long period of decline, with another round of redundancies every few months. It gets really unpleasant when everybody is just worrying about whether they'll still have a job next week. Everyone gets totally negative. So, good luck!
Also, given your URL shouldn't the blog be kasia in a kornshell?

damn, that sucks. i've had people who i worked with fired, and that sucked enough, even though i knew they really did deserve to be let go. i can't imagine what it would be like if they were let go just because the company couldn't cut it, not because of anything specific about them.

Well, that bites. But a friend of mine who lost their job in Dec. got another one in Jan, and after accepting the job got three callbacks from other prospective employers.

when it comes down to it, employees are dollar figures in some high-executive's spreadsheet. Do you think they take in concideration that we have spent all-nighters and sometimes weekends coding?

Layoffs really do suck. I just got away from working for a company where for the last 2 years every other thursday they did layoffs. In that time period, my group went from 16 people to 2. But the 2 of us left had our revenge by putting in our notice on the same day. You would not believe the stress of thinging this thursday could be my last day at this job for 2 years straight.
