Blog self-indulgence
Seeing as I finally have time to breathe, read and live in general I've spent some moments today in blissful self-indulging activities like checking who's linking to me (Technorati) and found this. Neat! I inspired someone to start a blog of their own, that's just great.
My own weblog is getting on in age, nearly done with it's first year and entering the terrible twos (okay, so the first anniversary is technically in July but I like to celebrate things early). I suppose I may say that my own was inspired by many others.. really many, but I should give credit to Jeremy seeing as I not only stole his idea of using Movable Type but the first iteration of this weblog looked eerily like his.
The traffic has grown.. from an average of 112 visits a day in August to 2204 last month. Of course half of that is mis-directed google searches, one quarter AOL users jumping from one proxy server to another and the rest.. well, I can't explain the rest but I sure am gratified (pleased, flattered and happy) that you're here! Hi. Which brings me to my next question.. just how many of you would still be reading this if I was a flannel-wearing burly guy with a beard named Bob.
Comments
I'd still read, because what you write I find interesting.
I might not send you flirty e-mails from time to time, but I'd still read your blog. :)

I also have to say, your blog was one of 3 that I kept reading and said, dang' it, I wanna do dat.......So I did. :D Thanks K

what, you mean you aren't a flannel-wearing burly guy with a beard named Bob?
i don't know how you can expect me to recover from such a shock.

Well, if your posts sounded like Burly Bob and all he wrote about was choppin wood for the woodpile then I might just read to see if you noticed the spider or chipmunk hanging out in stacks of lumber.
Then again, if you posted as you do know as a Burly Bob I would be wondering what you did in your spare time to stay Burly so would still read. hmmm...
In any case, I like the way your mind works and enjoy reading what you think.

Does this mean I should shave off the beard?

If you shaved the beard off dave, would anyone notice?

I think you should start a blog at www.flannel-girl.com too. Just to see what would happen. :-)

Kasia, I've been reading your blog for a while now. And I've started my own blog just because of you. Your weblog is insightful and interesting to read and what I have seen, your blog just makes sense compared to other blogs.
About that Bearded-Bob thing... I think that I would stop reading your page because - at least for me - this weblog thing is based on the trust to the writers credibility. It has nothing to do with gender, it's about honesty.

I see I'm in common company here. I think your blog is enjoyable to read in the mornings. I personally used your site to help with my psuedo blog on my site, made it from scratch though.
Now, if your were a burly man with beard, I'd probably shy away...especially with a site named "unix-girl.com"...*shivers at the thought*

Question: why would you name your beard Bob? That's a little disturbing :)
Reality: Both you and Jeremy inspired me to make my own lame attempt at a blog, quite like many of the others have mentioned. Your blog has been a fun read and I learned that one doesn't even have to be awake to add to the blogdom :) Personally, that is.
Does this mean we should begin looking for 'Bearded Kasia in a nutshell'?

words good; Sex & appearance irrelevant. Keep up good work.

I just started up my own blog and I have to say, you were among the few people who really inspired me to do it. After seeing as you were using MT I also migrated to it and am still in the process of learning and configuring it, etc. Hope it grows to be as good and popular.
I also do Java and Linux work so we have some common ground there too, I like reading about your linux, java and generally geeky things. I also go running, so there :)

Hmmm...reasons I read...
1. Named Kasia -- I've a friend of the same name. Following the name is how I initially arrived pretty recently, from Jeremy's blog I think; I read his too.
2. One of the first entries I read said something to the effect, "I like Java. Deal with it." I hear you. I'm the one of the few, the ... ones at whom others look askance ..., who use Java while everyone else around here uses languages/libraries such as Perl, Tcl, Tcl/Tk, Skill, C, X Window System, and sometimes C++. I can use the others (and must use them most of the time), but I like Java for a bunch of reasons.
3. My female friends around here in computer engineering land use unix competently enough, but don't embrace it. I wonder what makes you different. :-)
4. I find enough of it interestings and the rants entertaining.

Hi, Bob.
Just remember that Content is King in getting people to return to any website.
Sure, there's a degree of cachet in being a enthusiastically tech-literate girly but it doesn't make you unique. Unusual, yes, but unusual catches the eye in the short-term only.
Actually, I visit your site for a number of reasons; none of which revolve around any sort of latent desire to date a geek-chick, however eloquent she may be.
What keeps me here is the eclectic mix of tech, hobby and those few brief glimpses of what's going on with you as a person. Fascinating, interesting, amusing...
More of the same, only different, please. As usual!

Why would you have a beard named Bob?
