Team spirit gone awry
I can understand seti, folding.. and the other random distributed computing projects.. but this .. was this started as a joke? Please someone say 'yes'..
(Yes, I do know this isn't distributed computing, but the whole competition thing is related)
Comments
What's even better is that some one had the nerve to suggest that we start a DSlreports sanctioned team for this crock of a project...

I don't understand the point, but I figured it might be interesting to see how much I really do type (under windoze), so I installed it. And it's just as pointless as I thought it would be...

Nobody said that there was a point to it. Hell, even the site says that it's for entertainment purposes only.
Distributed computing? Nobody said it was distributed computing.
AnandTech defines distributed computing as: "... Breaking up a large task into smaller ones where each client can work at their own pace, contributing towards the common goal. The end result is computational power that dwarfs what even the largest supercomputers can produce."
It's been stated that there is no real goal for this, and that it is around for entertainment purposes. So, I ask again, WHAT distributed computing?

OK, let's all ignore my above comment. It's obvious that I'm reading-impared.
Perhaps I shouldn't even have read the comments.. ugh

There is no point. That's the fun of it. It's a delightfully meaningless waste of time.
Evidently more of you guys need to read Catch 22; it really does a nice job of explaining things that have no point.
Oh yeah, I'm the guy that started the project.
