Hello Big Brother!

Yahoo news:

The Pentagon is developing an urban surveillance system that would use computers and thousands of cameras to track, record and analyze the movement of every vehicle in a foreign city.

If news says "developing" that probably means it's already in place.. ain't our government grand.

Doesn't mean it'll work. Consider missile defense. Or the great electronic communication systems our military employed during the wars in the Mid-East: tank commanders with six to ten radios on hand that had to be swapped depending with whom the commander needed to communicate (unfortunately I don't have a reference; I think I saw this on some program like Nova or Frontline on PBS). Or the continued reliance on polygraph tests, despite the National Research Panel's report about it being so much pseudo-science. So, just because they are doing it doesn't mean it will work. Of course, just because a system may or may not work, doesn't mean they won't spend ridiculous amount of taxpayer money either way.

If I'm cynical, well, I'm able to watch the Committe on Redistricting on cable access in Austin (Take II; I saw the farce Take I during the regular session), so say nothing of having watched the regular session railroading, er, I mean, legislating, in the House.

considering that they fly 80 spy plane missions daily over the UNITED STATES, i can't say that i am surprised...

Reminds me of the film 'Enemy of the State'...
