To be honest, I always read about all these unemployed folk complaining, but I pull up monster.com or dice.com and I see all sorts of jobs available, right here in the state (mostly with insurance companies in Hartford). It never made sense to me why people were complaining they couldn't find jobs, when I've seen all sorts of open positions posted on those job sites...

I knew the dot-com boom was going to be a bust before it was a boom. :)
Know quite a few folks out of work, but most of them are doing freelance work and getting by not too badly.

Oh I complain about not finding a job. However I'm exactly 2 weeks out of a job and am willing to relocate to get the job that I want. I'm in a very "limited" market, for what I do (or for what I want to do) especially in CT. In a couple of weeks, if I can't find the job I *want* I will take a job that pays the bills, which makes me a non-Bob. At least I hope I'm a non-Bob. :|

Problem with Karl's explication is that it many IT people can't find work because they are overqualified for, as he calls them, menial jobs. Employers are not going to hire people who will be bored and out the down ASAP.
And of course when there are VERY FEW IT jobs in your city (only three have been posted in New Orleans lately) and you have thousands of IT workers, guess what? You do the math.
