The good, the bad and the annoying: being female at JavaOne
There are probably a 100 females at this entire conference, but I only speak for myself, so no need to agree with me if you're one of them.
- I feel like a leper in many sessions.. people squeezed in chairs but nobody sits next to me until it's absolutely necessary. I know I'm female.. but honestly! It's not contagious!
- Random people who think I want to be hit on just because I'm sitting somewhere and resting/relaxing.
- The ladies room is nearly always empty and quite clean -- that's nice.. maybe I should just hang out in there instead of the lounge.
- The most annoying of all: random people taking pictures of me.. what the hell, I'm not a conference attraction.

You're an attraction no matter where you go! :-)

Yeah, it's hardly surprisingly though considering the poor desperate souls attending. Your best bet for normalcy is going out in the evenings with said losers, where alcohol often swings them in the general direction of being socially digestible.

Could be worse ... you could be a guy at JavaOne. It's like being stranded on island full of Dilberts and the occasional lunch lady.

It's better to have that extra space for yourself :))

how do you know it is not contagious?

So let me get this straight, if men leave you alone and try to give you some space, you complain, and if they try to strike a conversation with you, you complain. Woman, you can never understand them.
I bet you're enjoying every minute of being the center of attention thanks for the fact that there were so few females amongst so many males.

Hey, Do you mind posting a picture of yourself, preferrably naked? That way you have more than just the JavaOne guys drooling over you. Kidding, kidding. Don't get your panties in a bunch!
You must not be from around here, just tell the guys their bottom external extremities are too large and the top too small, you prefer women.

Wow, everyone is getting all wierd. I feel bad for Kasia. I've felt the same way at an all women's kickboxing class.

How on EARTH will Kasia telling a guy that she prefers women cause the guy to become LESS interested? Their eyes will pop out of their heads like some poorly animated cartoon character. Their tongues will drop to the floor, along with their jaws.
Nope, it's much better to say something like: "You know, I always wanted to watch two guys do it, or maybe three. I'll direct and post pictures on my website. What do you think?"

I am a black male, a real live developer. Sometimes, I feel the same way(minus the picture taking)

You people are weirder than I... and that's saying something.
Posted by: kasia | June 30, 2005 02:59 PM
Wow, Paul has some really weird sexual fantasies.
Posted by: Joe | June 30, 2005 03:41 PM
How do you know? I didn't actually write down any of the *really* weird ones.
Oh, BTW, Kasia, I need my Grandma Bikers in Smurf Outfits video back ... you know, where Papa Smurf finally gets the spanking he deserves ...

Wow. And posting them in PUBLIC no less.

I was there too. Lots of things at JavaOne freaked me out; the preponderance of sausage was just one.
